Ernestine "Ernie" Byrd

October 15, 1955November 28, 2019

Ernestine Bohanon (Ernie) Byrd, age 64, of Tanner Williams, Alabama, passed on November 28, 2019.

Ernie was born on October 15, 1955, to the late J.C. Bohanon and Juaree Bohanon. Ernie grew up in Georgetown, Alabama. Ernie married the love of her life, Gregory Allan Byrd SR., on December 14, 1974. The couple settled in Tanner Williams Alabama, where they raised their three children; Shelly, Kerri and Allan. Ernie is preceded in death by her sister Cherie Rodgers and nephew Brandy McGowan.

Ernie spent more than 30 years in as a very dedicated and hard worker with the Mobile County Public school as a CNP Manger at Tanner Williams Elementary School. Ernie was a devoted and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and was excited to become a "BB" to her wonderful grandsons Tripp Byrd and Layton Wheat. Ernie loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for each celebration.

Ernie was known for bright sunshine smile and loving laugh and her love for the Alabama Crimson Tide. She lived her life like her favorite saying “Live every moment, Laugh every day and Love beyond words.” She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Although we can longer see her with our eyes, touch her with our hands, we will always be able to feel her in our hearts forever.

Family and friends will gather at Westlake Church, 13685 Tanner Williams Rd, Wilmer, AL. on Monday, December 2, 2019, for Visitation from 11:00-1:00 followed by Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Trinity Baptist Cemetery in Tanner Williams, Alabama

Ernie was the most joyful person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. There was never a time that I saw here that she did not have that big, beautiful smile on her face. She loved her family and took pride in her job. RIP beautiful lady💔🙏

I was so saddened to see the news about Ernestine. I haven’t seen her in years but we went to grade school together at Wilmer and on through high school. She was always a sweet person. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God grant you peace and comfort and strength in the coming days.

I went to school with her and she was such a sweetheart of a friend. I have often thought of her wondering about her life. Our lives took different paths but that didn’t stop me from thinking about her and her sister from time to time. I’m happy she had a wonderful life, family and good friends.
To your family, I’m so sorry for your loss. You will be in my prayers and thoughts.
I still have some school pictures of her, she hasn’t changed. ❤️
