Esther Lee Fox, 95, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Born in Robinson, Illinois to Kenneth P. and Susie Goodwin, she lived in Jackson, MS and Mobile, AL. Lee was married to William D. Fox for 62 years, and together they had two daughters, Rev. Dr. Susan E. Fox (Jeanie) and Laura F. Wilson (Ken). Lee considered Jeanie to be her bonus daughter.
Lee graduated from Murphy High School and attended Mississippi State College for Women. After college, she worked at the GM & O Railroad, where she developed a lifelong love of trains. She was an avid reader and she worked as a librarian for several elementary and high schools. After her retirement, she was a faithful volunteer at the Moorer Branch of the Mobile Public Library for over 30 years. She loved her time at the library and she was the recipient of several awards for her service there. On her 90th birthday, her friends at the library arranged a special birthday celebration which included a visit from Channel 10 Surprise Squad. The Mobile City Council declared Tuesday, October 17, 2017 as “Mrs. Lee Fox Day.”
Lee is survived by her daughters, her granddaughter Amy Messer (Jeremy), and their children Aiden and Ansley.
A memorial service will be held at Providence Presbyterian Church on Sunday, April 16 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorial gifts can be made to the SPCA or Providence Presbyterian Church Music Ministry. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
