
Etta Jo Williams - Known as "Miss Jo" to many, was called by her Heavenly Father to come home on Sunday, October 31, 2010. Her loving Lord Jesus Christ was there watching over her daily and took her hand and welcomed her home. Jo was born in Roswell, New Mexico, later lived in Laurel, Mississippi and was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church before moving to Mobile. She joined Dauphin Way Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school classes and conducted prayer meetings. Her main mission was in prayer and seeing a lost soul coming to know and accept the Savior she knew so well, Jesus Christ. Jo opened and furnished the prayer room for the church. Jo was corporate secretary and vice-president at Loyal American Life Insurance Company. She loved her work and became like a family with her co-workers and staff. Jo was elected "Boss of the Year" by the Bay Chapter of American Business Women's Association. After she retired, she enjoyed her free time to minister many in need. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, C. B. Williams and Carrie; one brother, James; and sister, Naomi Smith. Jo leaves to a host of friends and loved ones including her long time friend and caregiver, Erin Grafton; her brother, Charles (Mattie Evelyn) Williams of San Antonio, Texas; nephew, Jim (Vickie) Smith; and two great-nieces, Kelli and Stacy; a loving and devoted aid, Evelyn Napier who was always tender and caring. Funeral services will be held from Dauphin Way Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at 12:00 noon with Dr. Fred Wolfe, a long time friend, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in Indian Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel, Mississippi where Jo's parents and sister are laid to rest.
