Fishel “Wayne” Summers, age 79, of Semmes, Ala., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021. A native of Mobile, Ala., Wayne was a graduate of Semmes High School and studied business at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. He worked for more than four decades at his family business, Summers Roofing and Construction in Mobile. His wife and loving companion for more than 40 years is Doris Snow Summers, also a native of Mobile.
Wayne was a cherished husband, father and grandfather, dedicating much of his time to the family he adored. He never missed an opportunity to watch his granddaughters Alainah and Hannah Diaz at their many ball games, dance recitals, and cheering competitions. Wayne was such a beloved presence at his granddaughters’ ball games that their teammates knew him simply as “Paw Paw.” To his daughter, Angie Summers Paul of Semmes, he gave his unconditional love, calling her each morning to chat , give advice and provide support. Wayne was also an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, and he shared his love of hunting and fishing with family and friends.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Fishel and Ruby Summers; his stepmother, Willie Mae Summers; daughter Tina Ruby Summers Nord; brothers Ronnie Summers Sr. and Stevie Summers; and nephew Joey Summers. He is survived by his wife, Doris Summers; daughter, Angie Summers Paul (Greg); granddaughters, Hannah and Alainah Diaz; and brothers Jackie Summers (Shirley), Doyle Summers (Kathy), Ricky Summers (Elaine), and David Summers (Lisa). Wayne will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved and supported him.
Visitation for Wayne will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
