On August 2, 2021, U. S. Army Sergeant First Class (Retired) Fletcher Henry Rivers, completed his mission on this earth. A resident of Eight Mile, Alabama. Fletcher was 73 years old and was born on June 7, 1948 in Mobile County to the union of Sidney and Mildred Towner Rivers, Jr.
Fletcher graduated from Rosa Lott High School, class of 1966, where he formed many lifelong friendships. A 1968 graduate of Carver State Technical College. Fletcher joined the U. S. Army in 1968, he served for 20 years. His tours included Seoul, Korea and Berlin, Germany. He continued his education at St. Leo College in Military Education, U.S. Army Signal School, U. S. Army Institute of Personnel & Resource Management.
After retiring from the U.S. Army Fletcher worked in various Law Enforcement positions: Mobile Police Department, Mobile County Metro Jail, Mobile County Community Corrections, District Attorney of Mobile Victim of Violence Program, Mobile County Court Police and U. S. Marshalls Office.
Fletcher volunteered with several agencies locally and abroad advocating for Racial Equality, Adult Education, Savannah Planning Committee for the observance of Dr. King’s birthday as a National Holiday, WJCL TV show “Focus”, Member of The Black Military Workers Association, and Mason MW Price Hall Grand Lodge.
Fletcher loved spending time with his family and dear friends. His passion beyond enjoying family and friends was his love for maintaining and restoring cars and trucks and working around his property.
Fletcher was preceded in death by his Father, Sidney Rivers Jr., and brother, James Rivers.
Fletcher leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life, a loving and devoted soulmate whom he met in 1999, wife Carrie Pugh Rivers, devoted son, Frederick (Theresa) Merriweather, Mobile, AL., a loving mother, Mildred Towner Rivers., Mobile, AL, two sisters; Cynthia (Theodore) Tarver, Birmingham, AL., Sandra (Don) Jackson, Mobile, AL., two brothers, Sidney W (Louise) Rivers, Ronnie (April) Rivers, Mobile, AL., three sisters-in-law, Pauline Rivers, and Alean Smith , Mobile, AL., Lolita Pugh- Westbrook, Anniston, AL., three brothers-in-law, U. S. Army SSGT (Retired) Johnnie Lee (Christina) Pugh, Pickerington, OH., Rudolph (Doretha) Pugh Jr., and Gary (Barbara Ann) Pugh, Mobile, AL., Army Buddies and Friends: U.S. Army Col. (Retired) Ronald Joe, McArthur (Sandye) Weeks, Jessie Smith, Roger (Ora) Thomas, Marcus (Melba) Hardy, Ernest Taylor, A. Renee Rivers, Derrick McMillian, and special friends throughout Berlin, Germany, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
