

Flossie graduated from Murphy High School in 1944, attended Mary Washington College (1944-1946), attended the University of Alabama (1946-1947), and later graduated from The University of South Alabama with a B.S. degree. She was a member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church where she served as President of the ECW (Episcopal Church Women), attended bible study classes, and played piano for the children in Sunday School. She was a kindergarten teacher at Westminster Preschool for many years and later the parish secretary at All Saints Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Azalea City Quilters’ Guild and an active member in her community.
In her later years Flossie stayed busy quilting, gardening, painting with watercolors, working on crossword puzzles and reading. She was also a “Meals on Wheels” volunteer.
Flossie will be remembered for her kindness, gracious spirit, and beautiful smile. She was happiest when surrounded by family and always quick to smile and laugh. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Flossie is survived by her daughter Laura Hollinger Gafford (Bill); son James Davidson Hollinger (Gin); three grandsons Benn Davidson Hollinger, Thomas Augustus Hollinger, William Lawrence Gafford, III; four granddaughters Holly Gafford Francis (Michael), Katherine Hollinger Tabor (Matt), Lucy Gafford Kastrantas (Mike), and Maria Russell Hollinger; three great grandsons and five great granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Gilbert Russell Hollinger, Jr.; parents William Buck Taylor, Sr. and Florence Davidson Taylor; her sister Alston Taylor Jenkins (Bob); her brother William Buck Taylor, Jr. (Virginia); and her son Gilbert Russell Hollinger, III.
A graveside service for the immediate family will be held at Magnolia Cemetery on June 13, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
