Floyd Donald "Don" Stringfellow Sr.

February 17, 1926July 31, 2021

Floyd Donald “Don” Stringfellow, Sr. – age 95, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021. He was born in Wilmer, Alabama on February 17, 1926, and was a lifelong resident of Mobile. Don Stringfellow grew up as a young man during the Great Depression of the 1930’s. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 during World War II. Outside of his love and dedication to his family, he was most proud of his service as a veteran to our country. He was a member of the Local Painter’s Union and eventually became its president. His last position was that of Business Agent until his retirement. Mr. Stringfellow had many friends as part of his Sunday School class at Moffett Road Baptist Church. He loved to garden raising many fruits and vegetables to provide to family and friends. Later in life, he set up a tomato stand to sell his vegetables. He met many friends through that small enterprise. He will be sadly missed by friends and loved ones. Mr. Stringfellow was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Laura Jane Stringfellow; mother, Elva York; stepfather, Clifford York; sister, Sally Welborn; and his youngest son, Ted Lewis Stringfellow. He is survived by his son, Floyd Donald Stringfellow, Jr. (Debra); and five grandchildren, Ryan Stringfellow (Michelle), Jillian Stringfellow, Eric Stringfellow, Ashley Zimlich, and April Rieckman. In addition, he is survived by four great-grandchildren; nieces, Joyce Williamson and Betty Fletcher; and his little dog “Missy” who currently resides with his son. The family would like to thank everyone at Allen Health and Rehab for taking care of Mr. Don. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Pine Crest Funeral Home on Friday, August 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity. Sooo sorry. Don was a "Special" man. We always waited for him to put out his Tomatoes sign. Great fresh vegetables and conversation's. He will be missed.

Don was the last of a circle of friends that included George and Ann Lauber, Herman and Elizabeth Maddox. They enjoyed fun times traveling together and playing cards on Friday nights. In later years, Don was part of the adult five class at Moffett Road Baptist. It was always a joy for him to be part of our class. We will miss you; but heavens awaits you.
