Mr. Furman Lee Smith, Jr., age 94, native of Jasper, AL and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, passed away at a local hospital on Saturday, March 23, 2019. He is preceded in death by his wife of 22 years Beulah Smith, parent, Furman and Johnnie Leith Smith, Sr., brothers, Forrest, Hoyt and Calvin Smith, sister, Mary Lou Griffin and Betty Christian. He is also preceded by sons, William Edward Mayo, Alexander Mayo, Nathaniel Lee Mayo and four grandchildren. Mr. Smith served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II, and served as a Torpedo man on Soloman Island. He retired from Pensacola Florida Naval Air Force Base as an Aircraft Quality Control Specialist. Mr. Smith is survived by his brother, John Leith Smith and children Donna Reed, four sons, Harvey Reed, Phillip Mayo, John Mayo, James Mayo and 25 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Wolf Ridge Cemetery.
