God for her life. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her laughter, friendship and warm presence will be missed by many. Gale peacefully passed from life to everlasting life Monday, June 18, 2018.
She was born in Mobile, AL on May 8, 1952. Gale was definitely considered an Ol’ Mobilian. Growing up, she loved singing and touring with the Springhill Baptist Chorus (even though she could not sing a note!) and Mardi Gras. Gale graduated from Murphy High School in 1970 and has been actively involved with the Alumni group Mobile Mix since its origination. She attended college at the University of South Alabama and Auburn University where she majored in Psychology. Gale used her gifts of organization and people skills first as an Administrative Assistant at Price Waterhouse in Dallas, Texas then Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Research and Development at QMS, Inc. and finally Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Springhill Hospital.
She met the love of her life, Mike, on a blind date, married and followed him from Mobile to Memphis to the Bahamas. Mike and Gale did a lot of traveling in their 25 years together. They especially loved cruises and their visits to the Bahamas. No matter where they went, they had a wonderful time. Her other love was her Yorkie “Rocket” who she trained and had the starring role as “Toto” in “The Wizard of Oz” in Memphis, TN.
Gale and Mike moved back from the Bahamas and decided to make their new residence in Orange Beach. Gale was very active as a member and officer of the Gulf Shores Newcomers Club, a dedicated volunteer of the “Share The Beach” Sea Turtle Program, and also a member of several Bunco groups. Not living in Mobile did not stop her from her love of Mardi Gras. She was a member and served on the Board of Directors for the Sirens of the Sea Women’s organization. She was to be their Emblem for 2019.
She was predeceased by her father and mother, Robert “Rick” B. Castle and Winifred “Winnie” Davis Castle, grandson Landon James McEnery , and her precious dog “Rocket”. She is survived by her husband Michael O’Bannon Pond, her stepdaughters, Kristen Pond McEnery (Robert) and Catherine Pond Lockard (Derek), her brother, Robert “Robbie” B. Castle, Jr., four grandchildren, Callie, Mason, Myles and Wyatt; and her two Yorkies, Mikey and Max.
The family will receive friends on Sunday June 24, 2018, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Pine Crest Cemetery. A Memorial service will be held Monday, June 25, 2018 at 10 am from Pine Crest Chapel.
