After high school, Garry worked as a millwright for International Paper Company. He suffered a near deadly accident at IP and fought the rest of his life to successfully overcome the ravages of the accident.. And, although his recovery was always a work in progress, he continued his pursuit of a life well-lived.
He enjoyed travelling, fishing, grilling, gardening, football, darts and music. Classic rock and the blues were the sountracks of his life. He was a jack of all trades from auto mechanics to home improvement.
His garage, in west Mobile, where he worked the last half of his life, was also the place he welcomed and enjoyed the company of his many friends. After work, his garage transformed into a sports bar, late night theatre, poker den, and dart emporium with classic rock and the blues playing in the background.
If you were one of his friends and you came to him with a problem or issue he threw himself into finding a solution. If he couldn't fix it himself, he always knew someone who could. He was an example of human kindness that is rare in this day and time.
Finally, Garry was a beloved member of the 1975 graduating class of the John S. Shaw High School and he leaves behind a multitude of lifelong friends who loved him dearly. They will miss his zest for life, his loving friendship and his pursuit of living life to its fullest. His passing leaves an ache in their heart, but it will soon be followed by the warm glow of the love he gave them all..
