Gary Preston Smith

SMITH Gary Preston Smith, Sr. - A native and lifelong resident of Mobile died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at home surrounded by family. Gary graduated from Theodore High School in 1974 and went on to graduate from the University of South Alabama in Business. While in college Gary started his career in broadcasting at WKRG AM/FM Radio as an on air personality and later went into sales. He is well known in the media circles where he worked at G100, WWRO "ARROW 100.7" and Clear Channel WNTM 710 in sales. He was a member of the Conde Cavaliers for many years, serving this year as president. He loved spending time with family and friends and watching/attending Alabama games. Gary was preceded in death by his daughter Corey Dyer Smith. He is survived by his loving wife Amanda Tarter Smith, two stepchildren, Morgan and Callie Tarter; one daughter, Lynsey Smith and one son, Gary Preston Smith, Jr.; parents, Preston and Nell Smith; sisters, Kim Hastie (John) and Carlotta Rushing (Trevor) and brother, Rick Smith; nieces, Jordan and Hannah Hastie and nephew, Smith Rushing and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Christ United Methodist Church where he was a member. Visitation will be held for family and friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and the memorial service will follow at 11:15 a.m. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
