Gary Paul Watkins

Gary Paul Watkins, 71, of Mobile, AL, moved to his Heavenly home on Monday, December 23, 2013 surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on June 8, 1942. He attended Murphy High School and retired as the Chief Mechanical Inspector for Mobile County in August of 2013. Prior to his illness, he was an active member of First Baptist Church, Tillman’s Corner, AL. Visitation will be 9:00AM-10.00AM Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Mobile Memorial Gardens on 6100 Three Notch Rd., Tillman’s Corner, AL. Funeral services will follow at 10:00AM in the chapel with Dr. Mack Morris of Woodridge Baptist Church, Mobile, AL, officiating. Burial will follow at the Apostles Section of Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Gary was preceded in death by his stepfather J.D. Brownlee and his mother Lillian Fairbank Brownlee. He is survived by his wife, Sharon W. Watkins; daughters: Laurie A. Walthall (Chuck), Kimberly W. Clayton-Setchell (Chad), Barbara Allyson Williams (James), and Julie W. McGuire (Brent); brothers and sisters: Cheryl B. Darnell, Robert (Bob) Brownlee, Joan B. Marsh, Pam B. Ladnier, Carol Brownlee, Richard (Ricky) Brownlee, Alan Brownlee; grandchildren: Sierra Breckenridge, Andrew C. Walthall, Ballyn Williams, and Stephen P. Walthall. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins that love him very much.

God showed Himself strong in Gary’s life by carrying him through a long and difficult illness. He loved the Lord, his family, his job and his friends. Gary never met a stranger and loved serving people.

Second Corinthians 5:8, “...to be absent from the body is to be present (home) with the Lord.”
