Mr. George Albert Carwie, Jr. – a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 in a local health care facility. Mr. Carwie was a lifelong member of Christ Church Cathedral. He was a 1938 graduate of Murphy High School and attended Auburn University. He was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He grew up in the family grocery business on Government Street near Broad Street and owned and operated Carwie Hardware from 1960 until 2000, and was an avid real estate developer. Mr. Carwie was preceded in death by his parents, George Albert Carwie, Sr. and Amelia Ferniany Carwie; and one sister and brother-in-law, Matilda and Leon Prestia. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice Holley Carwie; two sons, Thomas G. (Davenna) Carwie and David Albert (Karen Ewing) Carwie; one brother, Johnny (Ann) Carwie; three sisters, Marie (Ernest) Koury, Doris (T.G.) Solomon, and Millie (Daniel) Haas; three grandchildren, Katheryn Carwie, Abigail Carwie, and David Albert Carwie, Jr.; nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. The family would like to express their thanks to longtime employees, Judy Sellers and Jeff Lawson, for their friendship and loyalty. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Christ Church Cathedral. The family will receive friends at the Christ Church Cathedral Parish Hall on Saturday from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Church Cathedral. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
