The saxophone was the focus of George's earlier years. He was a proud graduate of Murphy High School, where he played the sax in the band and with the Swingle Swingsters. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II playing the sax; and he attended the University of Alabama where he played the sax in the Alabama Cavaliers. George had a great love and knowledge of music. George's greatest love was the Mobile Opera. He was Past President and served as Treasurer for 17 years during the growth of Mobile Opera with this beloved friend, Mrs. Kathy Willson. George served as a partner of Smith, Dukes and Buckalew where he considered his co-workers as family, and his many clients as good friends. The family wishes to express special appreciation to caregivers George Owens, Sally Morris and the fine ladies on the "C" Wing of William F. Green Veteran's Home.
