Gerald (Jerry) Carter, age 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2020. Gerald born in Eatonville, MS, lived 40 years in Mobile, AL. before retiring to Gulf Shores, AL. in 2004. He grew up on a farm and always loved gardening. He served in the US Army and Army National Guard and was employed as a pipefitter/welder at Courtaulds/Accordis Rayon Plant until his retirement in 2000.
Gerald was an Alabama football fan but his coaching days of the CY0 team at Corpus Christi in Mobile meant the most to him. Gerald married Shirley Ann Porter Morrison, August 1, 1969. After raising their children, they enjoyed many wonderful cruises together and eventually built a house and moved to Gulf Shores, AL. As Gerald's health declined he found peace watching the birds and squirrels and playing with his rescue dog Peppy. His biggest peace came when he found the love of Christ again at First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores. This peace prepared him to join his Father in Heaven.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; Oliver Dewey and Ella Inez Lowery Carter, brothers; O.D., Paul and Ford, sisters; Betty Jo, Vivian, Lillian and Ann. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley, daughters; Karen Bears, Cynthia (Chris) Calhoun, sons; Shane (Marie) Odom, Todd (Beverly) Morrison and Scott (Rose) Morrison and brother Charles Carter, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until time of funeral services at 2:00pm, on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Pine Crest Funeral Home with Pastor Lawrence Phipps officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery
