Gilbert Russell Hollinger, III (Rusty), a resident of Gulf Breeze, Florida passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2022, after a brief illness. Rusty was born on October 9, 1953, in Mobile, Alabama, the son of Gilbert Russell Hollinger, Jr. and Florence Taylor Hollinger. Rusty graduated from the University of Alabama where he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Whereas his education took him down several paths, his primary expertise was in land title research. His last employment was with Southern Company where he worked as a Project Manager.
In his younger days, Rusty fell in love with the beauty of Wyoming and the Rocky Mountains. He lived and worked there for many years. He later returned closer to home, establishing his permanent address in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Rusty did return to the West for a period, working on oil and gas leases in Colorado.
Rusty’s family and friends were very important to him. He never married and had no children. However, Rusty developed relationships with his nieces and nephews who loved him almost as much as he loved them. He seldom allowed any occasion or holiday to pass without sending a personalized card, text or present to mark the day. Rusty is survived by his mother Florence Hollinger, sister Laura Gafford (Bill), brother David Hollinger (Gin), and nieces and nephews Holly Francis (Michael), Lucy Gafford Kastrantas (Mike), William Gafford, III (Teran), Benn Hollinger, Katherine Tabor (Matt), Thomas Hollinger and Maria Hollinger. He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Russell Hollinger, Jr. A graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery for the immediate family.
