Gisela Maria Redel Calderaro

Mrs. Gisela Maria Redel Calderaro, 75, of Mobile, AL, entered into rest Friday, March 11, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of the church. Rev. Will Saucier will officiate.

Mrs. Calderaro was born September 4, 1940, to the late Georg Redel and Kunigunda Friedrich Redel, in Erlangen, Germany. She was married in 1961 to the love of her life, Charles Ray Calderaro in her hometown of Erlangen. They moved to Mobile in 1962 and subsequently began their family. She proudly became a United States citizen in 1971 while Mr. Calderaro was overseas serving his country. Mrs. Calderaro was a a graduate of Cleveland State University, a loyal member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and was very active in various social organizations.

Mrs. Calderaro’s passion in life was her family and many friends. She loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren and to visit over the years her parents and siblings in Germany. Her loving spirit, beautiful smile, and laughter will never be forgotten.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles Ray Calderaro, two children, Denise Calderaro (Douglas Lucian, Jr.) Modling and Anthony “Tony” Charles (Jessica Logan) Calderaro, seven grandchildren, Olivia Maria Calderaro, Douglas Lucian Modling, III, AnnaMarie Calderaro, Abigail Marceline Calderaro, Anthony Grayton Calderaro, Jacob Wasden and Brittany Reeves, along with five siblings, Werner Redel, Herbert Redel, Margit Redel Fechner, Georg Redel, and Gina Redel Patutschnik all of Erlangen, Germany.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name can be sent to The American Cancer Center, St. Dominic’s Catholic Church or a charity of choice.
