
The Honorable Glay E. Maggard - a native of Kentucky and resident of Dauphin Island, AL passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. He was an active member of St. Francis Episcopal Church on Dauphin Island, AL. He was a retired Administrative Law Judge with the Social Security Administration in Mobile, AL, Louisville and Lexington, KY. Judge Maggard was a practicing attorney and trial commissioner with offices in Munfordsville and Elizabethtown, KY. He was an avid sailor and a member of the Mobile Yacht Club.Survivors include his wife, Lois Carmichael Maggard; four children, Diane (Tom) Hall, Glay E. (Ruth) Maggard, Jr., Melissa (Joe) Allen and Jeff (Melanie) Maggard; three step-children, Andie (John T.) Bender, Susan (Kevin) Carley and Monica (Roger) Smith; brother, Howard (Cinda) Maggard; sister, Marjorie (John) Heigl; brother, Don (Eva) Maggard; sister, Linda (John) Murray; six grandchildren; six great-grand-children; five step-grand-children; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 28, 2010, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, Dauphin Island, AL. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:30 a.m. prior to services. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Francis Episcopal Church, Dauphin Island, AL. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Meshad and the staff of Southern Cancer Center, as well as Springhill Hospice, with a special thank you to Carol Hocutt, RN. and Jenese Turner, LPN.
