Born in Mobile to Katherine Elizabeth Smith Allen and Harold Gurganus Allen Sr., Harold graduated from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and continued his education at Auburn University and the University of South Alabama.
Harold proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he built a career in sales, including working for a national shoe company and holding various sales positions that took him across the country. His career allowed him to meet people from all walks of life, a fitting path for someone known for his outgoing nature and love of conversation.
After retiring from sales, Harold found great enjoyment in bartending. More than the work itself, he treasured the fellowship, camaraderie, friendships, and conversations that came with it. He genuinely enjoyed being around people and valued the connections he made throughout the years.
Harold was preceded in death by his beloved son, Brad Allen; his mother, Katherine Elizabeth Smith Allen; his father, Harold Gurganus Allen Sr.; and his brothers, Andrew Walter Allen and Phillip Harrington Allen.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Diana Fishwick Allen; his nephew, Andrew Bernard Allen; and many close cousins, relatives, and friends who will remember him fondly and deeply miss his presence in their lives.
Harold will be remembered for his service to his country, his gift for conversation, his enjoyment of good company, and the many lasting friendships he formed throughout his life.
A graveside service with burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Odalys, 562 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Harold and to celebrate his life, friendships, and the many memories shared with him.
