Dr. Harold Charles “H.C.” George, 88, passed away Monday, December 6th in Fairhope, Alabama. H.C. was born to Franklin and Olive George on March 23, 1933 in Weston, Ontario Canada. He grew up in upstate New York, and eventually relocated to Baldwin County where he resided for many years.
He lived an extraordinary life. H.C. was an orthopedic surgeon by trade, but his many passions included history, politics, traveling, wine, and all things German. He attended the College of Puget Sound and medical school at the University of Washington.
He was a founding partner at Baldwin Bone and Joint and he was once the owner of The Wine Merchant in Fairhope. During this time, he conducted many wine tours across Europe. Although he had many adventures abroad, and loved his chosen hometown of Fairhope, his heart still remained with his birthplace – Canada. His final wishes were that he be brought home to Canada and laid to rest beside his mother and father. He served his country proudly as a navigator in the United States Air Force. This is how he ended up stationed in Germany, where his love of all things German began.
Despite his numerous travels and adventures, his greatest legacy will be his generous spirit. He gave so much to so many people; too many to count.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Karen Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Sanchez George ; his brother, Bruce George and sister in law Janet George; and his children Sarah George (Richard Ford), Carrie George (Ditman Johnson), Elizabeth George ( Richard Baugh), Thomas George, Allison Collins (Joey), Christy Barnett, and David George. He also leaves to cherish his memory 14 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and many friends and other family.
There will be a private visitation for immediate family at Pine Crest Funeral Home. We will have a “Remembrance Gathering” Saturday, January 15th , hosted by David George and Allie Terrebone. The time and location will be forthcoming. Anyone who wishes to join us in celebrating his life is welcome to attend.
