February 7, 1936 - August 29, 2024
Mrs. Harriot Awbrey Huey Hall died on the evening of August 29, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Point Clear, Alabama. She was 88.
Harriot was born to Lawrence and Julia Eugenia Awbrey Huey on February 7, 1936, in Roanoke, Alabama. She was raised by her great aunt and uncle, Julia Belle Ford and Dr. Charles E. Ford. Harriot graduated from Handley High School in Roanoke, where she was a member of the JUG Club.
While attending Auburn University, she became a member of the Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi. Harriot graduated with a degree in dental hygiene from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, where she met her devoted husband of 66 years, Dr. Robert Phyfer Hall. Alongside Dr. Hall, she worked in dentistry for 32 years as a hygienist and office manager.
Growing up, Harriot drove around Randolph County, Alabama with “Doc” Ford as he treated patients and stumped for local politicians. This experience sparked a life-long love of politics and service to her community. Harriot volunteered for and organized many local campaign offices in Mobile County, and was ultimately appointed to the Mobile County Board of Registrars. She also served terms as the president of the Alabama Dental Auxiliary and the First District Dental Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mobile.
She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Hall, and sister, Nancy Huey Bradsher.
Harriot is survived by her brother, Charles (Rita) Huey; children, Julie Hall (Frank) Friedman, Robert Phyfer (Becky) Hall, II, Frederick Holland (Heather) Hall and David Christopher (Pam) Hall; grandchildren, Christopher Knox (Anna Russell) Friedman, Richard Awbrey (Martha) Friedman, Andrew Harrison (Lee) Friedman, Hallie Hall (Jared) Elrod, Bee Hall, Mary Helene Hall and Julia Eugenia Hall; great grandchildren, Christopher Knox Friedman, Jr., Edmund Cole Friedman, William Kelly Friedman, Cameron Roth Friedman, Benton Awbrey Friedman, Fletcher Hall Elrod and Campbell Phyfer Elrod; brother-in-law, John W. (Carol) Hall; and cousin Susan Wales.
Mrs. Hall, lovingly known as “Amma” by her family, was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and was especially proud to have been an important part of the lives of her seven great grandsons.
The family expresses their deepest appreciation to the caregivers from Memorable Occasions Elderly Care — Tracey Miler, Ann Leath, Juanita Davis, Maricka Thomas, Mahogany Henderson and Stacy Williams — for their loving care.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 4, at 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, in Mobile, Alabama. Memorial donations may be directed to UMS-Wright Preparatory School (65 North Mobile Street, Mobile, Alabama 36607) or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (4051 Old Shell Road, Mobile, Alabama 36608).
