He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Gordon Sparks Jr. and Rebecca Walsh Sparks.
Monk is survived by his devoted wife, Gwen Stauter Sparks; children, Louise Sparks Ritter (Michael), Lauren Sparks Osborne (James), Harry Gordon Sparks IV (Elizabeth), Charles Jason Pond (Talia), and Brantley Pond Harrison (T); and his sisters, Lucian “Poppy” Sparks Fields and Rebecca “Petey” Sparks Cureton. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Cole Anderson Ritter, Clara Katherine Ritter, Knox Jameson Osborne, Harry Gordon Sparks V, Mary Clay Louise Sparks, Caroline Elizabeth Pond, Anna Catherine Pond, Thomas Earl Harrison III, and Mary Frances Louise Harrison, along with a large extended family, many dear friends, and his beloved dog, Jack.
A graduate of University Military School, Monk later attended Marion Military Institute. He enjoyed a successful career in electrical sales, where he built many lasting friendships with colleagues and customers.
He approached life with a sense of adventure, first connecting with his beloved wife, Gwen, through scuba diving. He was also a proud Mystic Society member, fully embracing the traditions and spirit of his hometown. We will honor his legacy by celebrating Mobile Mardi Gras and loudly cheering for Auburn at every opportunity, at least those of us fortunate enough to root for the right team.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to the Diabetes Research Institute or charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Parish Hall, 3704 Spring Hill Avenue, Mobile, AL, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church.
