MRS. HELEN LOUISE MARTIN HERTZ a native of Mobile, AL, born September 26, 1950 to Hubert Lee Packer and the late Eddie James Martin. She was predeceased in this life by her father, Eddie James Martin; mother-in-law, Dr. Mary Louise Holt Hertz-Carter; one brother, Carl Martin; step father, Cleophus “Cleo” Packer; one brother-in-law, Richard Hertz, Sr. and a God sister, Nicole Williams. On December 31, 2020, the Lord called Helen into eternal rest and welcomed safely into His loving arms.

Mrs. Hertz was a wife, mother, daughter, business owner and competitor, but above all she was a follower of Christ. She gave her heart to the Lord at the young age of 9 years old and was a faithful servant for the rest of her life. As a young woman and upon her return to Mobile in 1995, she was an active member of Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church. In January 2016, Helen and Rudolph joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess, sang in the Sanctuary Choir as a soprano, and participated in the ACTS Sunday school class. Rooted in her deep dedication to education, Helen and Rudy started a college scholarship to support graduating high school seniors financially transitioning into their first year of college in 2018. From the time she gave her life to Christ, she sang in the choir, was a part of the Evangelism ministry, matron, usher, annual days/special events program designer, Sunday School teacher, and more. Furthermore, the role in which Helen served most proudly was as a Nana to her 4 grandchildren. It was a role in which she relished and that was a large part of her earthly joy.

Upon graduation from Mobile County Training School in 1968, she continued her education and obtained an associate degree from Bishop State Community College in 1969. In 1970 working as a work study program she met Rudolph Hertz (her dear Rudy). They were united in marriage in May 1973. Their love and his military career took them all over, before settling in their hometown of Mobile, AL. She was a loving military spouse for 21 years while Rudolph served in the Air Force.

Mrs. Hertz was known for her passion, above all, to service. Part of her service is her dedication to her business and helping others. Even in her youth, Helen was known to be “about her business” and always had an entrepreneurial spirit. Her passion for her business was superseded by her dedication to her Father’s business.

With more than 35 years of tax preparation experience, Helen was a true visionary who proudly owned and operated Accurate Tax and Payroll Services for the past 21 years. She was supported daily in the work she loved by her dedicated staff that she referred to as “Her Girls''. Her excellence in business was recognized by the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce in 2006 when she was awarded the Eagle Award, an honor which recognizes minority owned business successes in Mobile. Helen’s company also received the 2011 Outstanding Services Award from Urban Financial Service Coalition of Mobile and she was named as Woman of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women. With dedication to educating herself and sharpening her skills, she continually sought education opportunities. That desire led her to be an annual recipient of the prestigious IRS Annual Filing Season Program and Platinum Professional Tax Education services award recognition. Both awards are reserved for tax professionals who continually perform at the top of their field. That work ethic and clear dedication to excellence is how Helen went from having 10 clients in her kitchen to more than 1,000 in the greater Mobile area.

While always the commiserated professional, Helen also knew how to have fun. She was an avid and skillful bowler, who competed in multiple women's tournaments, and was always available to show her masterful skills at the spades, pinochle or Yatzee table. When not competing, she used her keen eyes to make beautiful home interior designs.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband of 47 ½ years, Rudolph Hertz; a devoted mother, Hubert Lee Packer; two sons, Christopher Kingsley (Ruth) Hertz, Sr. of Mobile, AL and Kervin Lazarus Hertz, of Chandler, AZ; two daughters, Chaundra KayChelle Hertz, of Pass Christain, MS and Katrina Joycelin Hertz, of Dallas, TX; three sisters, Theresa (Jimmy) Harrison, of Mobile, AL, Brenda (Larry) Wallace and Carolyn Robinson, both of North Charleston, SC; one brother, James Martin, of Mobile, AL; four grandchildren, Brianna Joycelin Hertz, Denim Dahmir Isaac Jackson, Christopher Kingsley Hertz, Jr., and Denver Marie Jackson; one aunt, Willie Mae Hancock, of Lakeland, FL; in-laws, Caleb (Gloria) Hertz, Jr., Fort Washington, Maryland, Carl Hertz (Veronica), Mobile, AL and Pattie Hertz, Amelia Court House, VA; one God sister, Nicki Williams; five Godchildren, Sophia Dennis Oliver, Terrance Ezekiel II, Tyra Ezekiel, Tia Ezekiel and Isiah Hale; her best friend, Lois Thomas (Roy Lee) , Shreveport, LA; a host of other relatives, clients, her dedicated staff, and friends. There are no words to express how much we will miss her, but she will forever live in our lives. So shocked and saddened to hear the passing of Ms Helen.
We have known her and her husband Rudy since she first prepared our tax return from her home.
She had always treated us as family.
Praying for comfort and understanding for the family in this time of grief.

I had the pleasure of working with Helen during a few tax seasons several years ago. Helen had a smile and a kind word for everyone she encountered. I was personally amazed during the time I was at the office when some of her clients would be upset about various issues, every time they left Helen’s office calmly and peacefully; she loved people and had the gift of a servant’s heart. May our Father in Heaven wrap His arms around Rudy and the Hertz family during this painful time. Love and prayers for comfort and peace that passes understanding in the days ahead, Sheila Cochran
