
Known more familiarly as Hank Cunningham and lovingly known to most as "Coach Hank", he was born in Troy, NY on April 16, 1948. He was a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry W. Cunningham Jr. and Lucy Burke Cunningham; twin brother and sister John and Joan and his brother Bruce.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Barbara Lee Cunningham and one son Henry William Cunningham, IV of Mobile, brother R. Michael Cunningham of Mobile and 3 sisters, Helen Lavoie and her husband Roger, Anne M. Cunningham, Cynthia and husband Douglas Cunningham. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ken and Sybil Lee; sister-in-law, Elizabeth McLaney, brother-in-law Douglas L. Lee all of Mobile, Alabama.
During his engineering career Hank worked for many years with Teledyne Continental Motors and Teledyne Power Systems. While there he worked on the design of the Voyager Aircraft which was the first aircraft to fly around the world without stopping or refueling in 1986.
Hank coached ladies softball for 15 years that resulted in District Championships twice and one State Title in recreational softball. He also coached Little League Baseball at Mims Park from 1992-2002. His teams won championships or made the final playoffs every year. Hank also coached soccer and basketball when his son played.
Hank Cunningham's biggest attribute was that he was a wonderful husband, father and all around family man. He put his family before himself which provided stability for a stronger union which extended not only to his immediate family but his extended families which include many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. All of which he adored very much!
Hank's long courageous battle with cancer ended in the greatest victory by being united with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To GOD be the glory!
Services will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Thursday May 19, with visitation with family and friends one hour before at 9 am also at the church.
