Henry A. Patterson of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 13. He was 85. He is predeceased by his mother, Alice Patrick. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty, of forty-seven years; his two daughters, Hope Herren (Keni) and Janet Jarrell (Dennis); and his four grandchildren, Will Jarrell, Allison Hutchings (Kyle), Amanda Herren, and Ken Herren.
Henry was born on May 2, 1930, and raised in Prichard, Alabama. After graduating from Murphy High School in 1948, he served in the United States Army in active duty during the Korean War. In 1953, he was honorably discharged from the 2nd Infantry and received a Korean Service Medal, a UN Service Metal, and a Combat Infantry Badge with 2 bronze stars. Upon his return from the service, Henry went to work at Bemis Bag Company and later retired from Stauffer Chemical Company in 1990.
Henry was a family man and sports enthusiast. An avid golfer, Henry played golf several times a week and was a member of the Tuesday’s Senior League at Spring Hill Golf Course. He was also an enthusiastic season ticket holder to the University of Alabama football games. He was an active member at the Chickasaw Masonic Lodge. He and Betty enjoyed traveling and spending time together after retiring early at the age of sixty. To say Henry loved his family would be an understatement. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, especially treasuring the time he spent with all four grandchildren.
