

Horace (Buddy) Darnell, Jr. born February 20, 1927 in Winston, Georgia, passed away July 28, 2013 after a brief illness. Buddy was a veteran of WWII having served in Japan for thirteen months at the close of the war. He retired as a Refinery Shift Foreman from Chevron Oil refinery in Pascagoula, MS in 1985. Buddy was part of the original startup crew in 1963 when he transferred from Plantation Pipeline in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout Buddy’s life, he was an avid gardener and an even more avid fisherman. During his later years, he focused exclusively on flounder fishing in the bays and bayous off the Alabama and Mississippi gulf coast. Buddy is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Carol Darnell and three sons, Scott Darnell and his wife Twila, Keith Darnell and his wife Vicki and Michael Darnell and his wife Margaret. Buddy is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, his sister Frances Williams, his close nephew Nathaniel Humphries, his brother-in-law Doyle Garrett and numerous nieces and nephews. Buddy is also survived by his final fishing buddy, Bobby Abernathy along with many close friends and neighbors. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 4:00 PM from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 3 to 4 pm at the funeral home.
