Hubert L. Paul, age 75, of Eight Mile, Ala., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013. A native of Magnolia Springs, Ala., Hubert was a graduate of Foley High School and attended Vigor High School in Prichard, Ala., where he met his wife of 52 years, the former Sharon Lassiter, a native of Andalusia, Ala. Hubert served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea and in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He worked for the Prichard Fire Department for 33 years and retired as Assistant Chief in 1992.
Hubert’s greatest loves were his family and fishing. Each year he looked forward to an annual family fishing trip at Lake St. John in Louisiana, a tradition he started nearly 30 years ago. He was also a skilled carpenter and gardener, and was the “go-to” man for family, neighbors and friends when they needed a helping hand or a problem solved. He could fix anything, including several boats that he rebuilt for his family to enjoy. He taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard work, integrity, and respect for others, all virtues by which he lived.
Hubert is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Alice Paul; sister Beverly Middleton; and brother, Reggie. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Greg Paul (Angie); daughters Renee Paul (Ted Dial) and Jennifer Strickland (James); and two sisters, Erma Phillips and Carol Allen. He also leaves six grandchildren, Nate Strickland, Emily Rose Strickland, Brandon Paul, Logan Paul, Alainah Diaz and Hannah Diaz. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home Dauphin Street on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church, Andalusia, Ala., at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
