

Dr. Huey Green McDaniel, born September 18, 1937 and died July 4, 2025. He was a native of Birmingham, AL and lived the last 25 years practicing medicine in Mobile, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Willie Green McDaniel and infant daughter, Martha Michele McDaniel. He is survived by his wife, Bunnie Sutton McDaniel, brother Young Emory McDaniel (Marsha), sister, Dr. Millie Martha McDaniel and his four children, Margaret Renee Acker (Scott), Dr. Huey Barrett McDaniel (Helen), Mischa Ruth McDaniel Craig, Stephen Thomas McDaniel, (Holly), five grandchildren, Christopher Charles Acker, Laura Elizabeth Acker, Abigail Mae Craig, Cameron Naman McDaniel and two great grandchildren. In addition, he is also survived by two step-daughters, Katherine Sutton Roberts (Lee), Kimberly Baird McCoy (Douglas) and four step grandchildren, William Douglas Roberts (Hailey), Sutton Andrew Roberts, Chamblin Quarles Baird, Campbell Elizabeth Baird, nieces and nephews.
Dr. McDaniel was graduated from the University of Alabama in 1959 and the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1963. He interned at Duke Hospital, followed by a residency in medicine and fellowship in endocrinology. After four years in Durham, he entered into active duty in the United States Army Medical Corp, stationed at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He served two and one half years on active duty during the height of the Vietnam War advancing to the rank of Major. During his twenty years in the Army, he served his country in Argentina,Honduras, El Salvador and Ecuador.
After his military service at Walter Reed, he then joined the faculty of the University of Alabama School of Medicine to the rank of Professor of Medicine. He was active in research, publishing more than 70 original manuscripts, administration as Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care and Acting Chief of Staff at the Birmingham Veterans Administration Medical Center and teaching medicine and endocrinology to medical students, house staff, and fellows at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He retired after 30 years from UAB and entered private practice in Mobile at the Diagnostic Medical Clinic serving on the staffs of Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, Providence, and Springhill Medical Center. He was a Colonel in the USA Reserves commanding the 3345th USAR Hospital. He served on active duty during the first Gulf War at Eisenhower Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Dr. McDaniel loved the study of medicine, the practice of medicine and deeply cared about his patients and their health. Additionally, he had a great love for God, his country, family and fellow man.
A private family only visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile on Monday, July 7, 2025. Funeral services will be held in Crawfordville, Georgia on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Hopkins Funeral Home, Washington, Georgia will be handling those services. (706-678-2525).
In lieu of flowers, Dr. McDaniel had made known his request that donations be made to UAB School of Medicine; 1720 Second Avenue South; Birmingham, AL 35282-9885. Flowers will be accepted at Radney Funeral Home or through Hendricks Florist in Washington, GA (706-678-2525.).
