Ica Rose Miller

Ica Rose Miller, beloved wife of Joseph Miller for 59 years, passed away December 22nd, 2018 after a brief illness at age 79. She was a resident of Semmes, Alabama. She was born February 28th, 1939 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Chester Erickson and Ruby Erickson and brother, Lief Erickson. She is survived by her husband, children Steven Miller (Leslie) and Peggy Taylor (Bryan "Ted"), three granddaughters, Amber Miller, Krisanna Taylor and Heidi Miller, her brother, George Erickson of Davenport, Iowa, many nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Ica Rose strove to live her life in the service to others. She was a social worker and counselor for most of her career at Penelope House and Southland Hospital and other places in Missouri and Iowa where she and Joe lived for several years. She graduated from the University of South Alabama in 1978. In the early seventies she was instrumental in establishing what is known today as the Mobile SPCA. Volunteering there and helping animals (and their people) was her life's passion. She was a dedicated volunteer who worked alongside countless other wonderful volunteers, many who have become lifelong friends. She loved working with animals and rescued many during her lifetime personally and an innumerable number through her lifelong work at the Mobile SPCA. In 2018, Ica Rose and Joe were awarded recognition for their 48 years of service to the Mobile SPCA.

Ica Rose and Joe were residents of Mobile for many years until they returned to their home state of Iowa in 2001 and became snowbirds, wintering in Mobile until they moved to Semmes in 2015. Ica Rose was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church. She loved her family, her pets and garage saleing.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 3rd, 2019 at 11am in the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Mobile, Alabama followed by a reception. Visitation from 10am-11am.
