

Jagdish Chandra Dhawan, Professor of Chemical Engineering, had a profound impact on students and colleagues over the past 28 years at the University of South Alabama. He was regarded as a dedicated professor & scholar whose commitment to teaching will be remembered. His presence in the classroom was remarkable and brilliantly felt by everyone. His animated voice, humor, and passion permeated the campus. Outside of the classroom, he was an avid tennis player, world traveler, expert chef, and devoted father and husband.
He died on May 25, 2011, in his home in Mobile, Alabama at age 64.
He became an active member of the Mobile community when he joined the University of South Alabama in 1983, as a founding faculty in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
He is survived by his wife, Rashmi Dhawan; son, Rinku Dhawan; daughter and son in-law, Roopa (Rashi) & Rishi Gandhi of Dayton, Ohio; and his brother, Baldev Raj Dhawan of Bangalore, India.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Friday, May 27, 2011, at 1:30 p.m.
