James Bowdoin Atchison - beloved husband, son, brother and friend, Bowdoin died unexpected on Saturday, May 21, 2022, during a trip to Destin, Florida. Entertaining master, crawfish cook, enthusiastic volunteer, supportive and loving friend, he was the spark of his family.
Bowdoin was born in Fairhope, Alabama on April 2, 1985. He attended UMS-Wright Preparatory School, graduating in 2003. He was a leading offensive lineman on two State Championship football teams and was named to the Birmingham News Offensive First Team in 2003. He went to Louisiana State University where he was an active member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, became a huge Tiger fan and made many devoted friends. He graduated in 2008, worked in the hospitality industry in Baton Rouge, and returned to Mobile in 2014. Bowdoin earned his real estate license and worked for EXP Realty and Red Hill Creek Investments in real estate management. On the luckiest day of his life in 2015, he met the lovely Heather Mattox, who became his wife, best friends, and was the love of his life. Bowdoin was active in the Port City Pacers, most recently having chaired with Heather the Old Mobile 5k Run, the Azalea Trail Run Committee, the Cancer Society Chili Cook-Off committee, and was a member of the Wild Mauvillians.
He is survived by his wife Heather; his mother, Pam Bowdoin Greene (Jason); his father, Jim Atchison (Karen); his brothers, Derek Atchison, Daryl Atchison, Jayde Greene, and Drue Walsh (Leanne); eight nieces and nephews; his in-laws, Eric and Tammy Mattox; his uncle John Alan Bowdoin; and many cousins.
