James Henry Baker III “Satch”, 73, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 in Mobile, Alabama. He was born to James Henry Baker, Jr. and Maxine Goldman Baker on February 17, 1948 in Pensacola, Florida, but grew up in Mobile, Alabama where he attended B.C. Rain High School, Class of 1966. Satch served as a Sergeant with the United States Army in the Viet Nam War, earning a Purple Heart and several other commendations. He retired from the Alabama State Docks where he worked as a stevedore. Satch loved to fish, hitting up a good bar, and Alabama football. He was an accomplished bowler – he actually bowled a 300 the day he received his draft notice in 1968. Satch was a member of the American Legion Post 88 in Mobile, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn “Boo” Baker; parents; one sister, Sandy Baker Deas; and a brother, Thomas Sickman.
Satch is survived by his sister, Cheryle Baker Richardson; brother, Ronnie (Pat) Baker; step-children, Ashley Buckley and Chip Aubert; as well as grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
