James was a Vietnam veteran in the US army. He was assigned to the first infantry division and the americal division in South Vietnam. James served as a gunner on the M48 tank.
He was an Army reservist when he got out of the military. James spent many years in public service. James was a Christian and a quiet family-oriented man. He always put his family first.
James is preceded in death by his parents James E. Cooper and Beatrice S. Gould and his brother, Johnny Ray Cooper.
James is survived by his wife, Linda Cooper, his 2 sons, James E. Cooper III and Phillip A. Cooper and his 6 grandchildren.
A visitation for James will be held September 29, 2026, at 11:00 am at Seven Hill Baptist Church, 8950 Airport Blvd, Mobile, Alabama 36608 with a funeral service following at 12:00 pm. The interment will take place at Pine Crest West, 1599 Snow Rd, Mobile, Alabama 36695.
