James Thomas Fitz-Gerald III, 76, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on September 7, 2025. Born on May 15, 1948, to Lillian Pankey Fitz-Gerald and James Thomas Fitz-Gerald Jr., Jim lived a life filled with music, dedication to education, and a deep love for the coast.
A graduate of UMS-Wright Preparatory School and Spring Hill College, Jim pursued his passion for music as a talented member of the band Pieces of Eight, touring nationally for several years and sharing his gift with audiences across the country.
After his years on the road, Jim built a respected career in higher education, serving as Vice President of Administrative Services at Faulkner Community College until his retirement in 2002. His work was marked by integrity, leadership, and a true commitment to students and colleagues.
In retirement, Jim found joy at his condo in Destin, where the beach became his sanctuary. His love of the water began with many years of fishing alongside his uncle, Sam Vrachalus, and he spent countless happy hours out on his boat.
Jim is survived by his beloved aunt, Elizabeth Vrachalus, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his talent, kindness, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
