Born in Mobile, Alabama, on February 20, 1934, Gramps attended Murphy High School.
Also known as Jimmy, he married the love of his life, Maxine "Gram" Fulford, on October 14, 1950. They shared a devoted life together and raised five children: the late James Edward Fulford Ill (Debbie), Jeffrey Alan Fulford (Becky), Robert Lee Fulford (T. Rose), Larry Gene Fulford, and Gary Lamar Fulford (Tammy).
Family was at the center of Gramps' life, and some of his happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people he loved most. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren: Jed Fulford, Clint Fülford, Jenny (Fulford) Newton, Carmen (Fulford) Lugo, Katie (Fulford) Turner, Alison "Ali" (Fulford) Collins-Looser, Alyse (Fulford) Vise, Payton Brooke Fulford, Trenton Fulford, Tiffany (Fulford) Hill, Lena Sheffield McMichael, Scott Sheffield, Bonnie Gaudet, and Blake Parmer. He was also blessed with 20 great-grandchildren, with another precious great-grandchild expected in December, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Whether he was tending his garden, or experimenting with a new recipe in the kitchen, Gramps found joy in the simple blessings of life. He loved sharing the fruits of his labor so you never left empty-handed and were always sent home with a bag of okra, tomatoes, or his infamous satsumas.
Gramps' legacy is one of love, hard work, kindness, and devotion to his family. Guided by his faith in Jesus throughout his life, he led by example and taught the importance of family, perseverance, and gratitude. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
Though their earthly reunion comes to an end, Gramps now joins his beloved wife, Gram, with whom he shared nearly 75 years of marriage and a lifetime of cherished memories.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile. A graveside service will immediately follow in Pine Crest Cemetery.
