

James Dowling Morgan, aged 89, passed away on June 18, 2026. He was born on October 18, 1936, to James Edward and Helen Tankersley Morgan in Mobile, Alabama. Jim was a beloved son, husband, father, Grandaddy, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He was known as “Gentleman Jim”- one who showed kindness, generosity, and Christ-like selflessness until his last breaths. He retired after 36 years of faithful service to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as Assistant Chief of Real Estate for the South Atlantic Division in Atlanta, served in the National Guard in Mobile, and was a Deacon for many years at Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Decatur, GA. He will be deeply missed by his family: wife of 69 years, Frances Irene; his daughters Cheryl Morgan/Stephens of Humble, Texas and her husband Ray; Patti Morgan/Foote of Loganville, Georgia and her husband Doug; his grandchildren, Jessica Porch, Dustin Stephens, Megan Evans, and Taylor Foote; his seven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; and his brother, Robert Edward Morgan of Mobile, Alabama. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home in Mobile, Alabama, with a service in the parlor immediately following to celebrate his life. Jim (Daddy, Grandaddy) leaves a void in our hearts but our memories are full of his whistling, generosity, quiet, gentle spirit & sweet sense of humor.
