

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William C. Welter and Edna E. Welter of Huron, South Dakota; his beloved wife of 60 years, Patricia Hyde Welter; and his daughter,Jamie Welter.
He is survived by his brother, Richard C. Welter of Atlanta, Georgia; his nieces, Jean Landuyt (Kevin), Susan Rodgers (Ted), Judy Fawbush (Dale); and Patty Welter; his nephew, James Robert Welter; his brother-in-law, Bo Hyde (Karen); his nephew, Nikita Dru Hyde; and numerous friends and family.
Jim was born on August 31, 1932, in Huron, South Dakota. Voted “most likely to succeed” and “best personality” while at Huron High School. He was an honor student in both high school and college (University of South Dakota). He received his Doctor of Medicine certificate from Tulane University and served his internship and residency at Charity Hospital of Louisiana. He moved to Mobile, Alabama and began practicing radiology at what was formerly known as Mobile General Hospital.
After moving to Mobile, Jim met and married the love of his life, Pat Hyde, in September 1962.
Jim continued his career at Doctor's Hospital Knollwood in Mobile and at Monroe Hospital in Monroeville, Alabama. He retired from the practice of medicine in 2003.
Jim was a dedicated professional who worked to help patients from all walks of life. He was a devoted family man and an animal lover. He enjoyed spending time watching sports and discussing current (news, weather, sports) events. He had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone he met and make them immediately feel comfortable. He was smart. He was kind. And he was loved. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island
Parkway, Mobile, Alabama, on April 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.
