Jan Simmons Preslar

Janis Simmons Preslar, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 4, 2024, following her brave and tireless fight against ALS. A native of Mobile, Alabama, the daughter of the late Horace Simmons and Sara Simmons, Jan spent her childhood years playing with the Sky Ranch neighborhood “crew". She loved traveling to Jackson, Alabama to visit her cherished grandparents, Frank and Sallie Lee. Jan graduated from Davidson High School, where she made many lifelong friends and memories, including her time as the first Davidson Warrior mascot. She then attended the University of South Alabama. Jan spent her career at Lifelines Counseling Services, finding her true calling as the Director of the Rape Crisis Center, where her work and that of her colleagues changed many lives. Along the way, Jan inspired all who knew her. In her, they found a trusted friend and confidante. She is survived by her husband and best friend, Tommy Preslar, her beloved daughters, Erin Bagley, Meghan Bagley Chandler (Chay), and Lee Ellen Bagley (Dutch Holscher), cherished stepdaughter Brandy Preslar Ramsay (Marion), and adored grandchildren, Elizabeth C., Thomas, Mary Lillian, Lyman Thomas, Jay, Elizabeth R., Alice, Sara, Liza, and Anne Foster. She is also survived by the circle of friends whose lives she touched and who provided her immeasurable joy.A visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a service at 3:00 p.m., at Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, AL 36695.
