Janice Oliver Deuel of Mobile passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024. She was married for 70 years to her high school sweetheart, Charley James Deuel. After 90 years she left an immeasurable legacy that endures through her greatest treasures, her children and grandchildren. She was the youngest of seven children born to Gertrude Warren and Abe Douglas Oliver in Castleberry, Alabama.
After graduating from Conecuh County High School she went to work for AT&T in Montgomery, Alabama. She moved to Auburn when she and Charley married where he was in Pharmacy School and continued to work for AT&T. After twenty years as a stay-at-home mom Janice returned to AT&T where she received full retirement after 20 years of service. She also co-owned Deuel Drug Store for more than 40 years.
Famous for her shrimp gumbo, shrimp salad, mac & cheese, and other family favorites she built a warm and loving home where her family made their most cherished memories. She introduced her family to camping as a way to see the country including many of the national parks as the main destination. They pulled a camper for three weeks every summer and always had many stories to tell. She also loved to fish.
Her favorite pastime was spending it with her family. The endearment of Mamama was treasured by her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley, and is survived by her three children, Teresa (David) Boone of Germantown, Tennessee, Sharron Deuel of Palm Bay, Florida, and Charley Deuel, Jr. of Mobile; three grandchildren, Ross (Tuyet) Boone of Alexandria, Virginia, Graham Boone of Washington, DC, and Chloe Deuel of Mobile and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Radney Funeral Home
