Jean Molpus Cieutat passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023 in Daphne, Alabama at the age of 85. She was born to Caleb Ernest Molpus and Louise Stanfill Molpus on February 3, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri, moving to Mobile as an infant. Jean always considered herself a lifelong resident of Mobile, and made it a point to keep up with the current events and citizens of the city. While attending Auburn University, Jean met her husband of 40 years and the love of her life, Donal “Don” Rae Cieutat, Sr. (“Ducky” to close family and friends). Together, they built a loving family, one to which Jean was extremely devoted to. She was a leasing agent for Marie McConnell Real Estate, and worked alongside Don as contractors for custom homes in Mobile. Jean served as the President of the East Church Street Historical Association in Mobile. One of her favorite activities was designing the landscaping for her home in the East Church District. As an adult, Jean was a devout Catholic, and was a parishioner of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Mobile.
Jean was one of the most lively, headstrong, and no-nonsense women you would ever come across. She loved her family – especially her grandchildren – with a ferocity that cannot be matched. Jean was a wonderful grandmother, and was always generous with her heart and time where her grandchildren were concerned. She was classy, sassy, had a strong moral compass, and will be greatly missed.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Donal Rae Cieutat, Sr.; parents; and two brothers, Caleb Molpus, Jr. and Russell Molpus.
She is survived by her three sons, Donal R. Cieutat, Jr. (Tricia), Ronald J. Cieutat (Janet), and Zachary L. Cieutat; a beloved daughter-in-law, Angie Clark; grandchildren, Donal Alan Cieutat, Sr. (Maylie), Jay E. Cieutat (Heaven), George D. Cieutat, David Alex Cieutat, and William Bradley Cieutat; great-grandsons, Donal Alan Cieutat, Jr. and Arthur J. Cieutat; a devoted sister, Marilyn Molpus; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished family and friends.
A graveside service for Jean will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. in Pine Crest Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Jean’s devoted caregivers, Marshelle Whittle and Regina Gandy, as well as the caring staff at Willowbrook Court at Westminster Village.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Core Project, a school for special needs children in Mobile: www.coreprojectinc.com.
