
Jerry Beman Hughey - an 86 year-old native of Perry County, AL and longtime resident of Mobile passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012. A 20 year veteran of the military where he served as an aircraft mechanic, Mr. Hughey served the majority of his career in the United States Navy, serving during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Mission Bay in the North Atlantic, and retired from the United States Air Force at the rank of Master Sergeant. He then worked for Teledyne-Continental in Mobile for 18 years until his retirement. Mr. Hughey was a longtime member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Men's Prayer Brakfast. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane Pitts Hughey; children, Lawrence Hughey, Richard Hughey (Laura), and Phillip Hughey; grandchildren, Mark Hughey, Tina Hughey, Richie Yarber, Jennifer Hughey, and Carmen Hughey; great-grandchildren, Ty, Ashley, Erica, and Bryan; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, October 8, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
