Jesse L. Bryant's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. Born into a family where the parents can be defined as a unit that provided love, support, work ethics, respect towards one another and others, stability and to reverence and love God.
Richard Allen Bryant and Rebecca Kidd Bryant welcomed Jesse the second boy born in a family of four began his life journey in the picturesque town of Lower Peach Tree, Alabama, where the rolling hills echoed with the laughter of his six brothers and three sisters who came soon after.
On a serene fall November day in 1951, Jesse exchanged vows with his beloved Mamie C. Holloway who waited patiently for Jesse to return back to Alabama from the Korean Conflict. Upon his return they immediately embarked on a lifelong adventure filled with love, laughter, accomplishments, and cherished memories. Together, they nurtured their three beautiful daughters, Vanessa Bryant -Young, Jessica Bryant - Marshell, and Frelicia Bryant, and welcomed into their hearts the joy and laughter of their grandchildren Troy Young III, Stephanie Young - Santana, Kalousheio (Kal) Marshell II, Rashad Robison, and Jesse Marshell.
As a father, grandfather, and pillar of his community, Jesse's presence was felt far and wide. From his days as a farmer, tending to the bountiful fields of his family's land with care and devotion, to his time serving his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, Jesse approached every challenge with courage and determination.
Upon his return from service where he earned multiple medals including a Bronze Service Star, Jesse pursued his passion for learning, he attended Coyne Electrical School and embarked on a successful career with Teletype, a subsidiary of Western Electric and later AT&T. Even in retirement, Jesse's thirst for knowledge and adventure never waned, as he embraced new opportunities with enthusiasm and joy.
In his leisure time, Jesse found solace in the simple joys of life. Whether tending to his garden, dressing impeccably, or indulging in the art of soulful cooking, Jesse approached every activity with a zest and passion that was truly infectious. And who could forget his beloved companion, Witchipooh, whose gentle purrs brought him endless comfort and joy?
As we gather to celebrate Jesse's remarkable life, let us take comfort in the knowledge that his legacy lives on in the hearts of many who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he did bid farewell to this world, his spirit will forever shine bright, a beacon of hope and inspiration for those who knew him.
Jesse was met with love by his wife Mamie Bryant, his daughter Vanessa Bryant Young, parents, and siblings: L.C. Bryant (Detroit, Michigan), Johnny- Lower Peach Tree, AL, Willie- Lower Peach Tree, AL, Sherman (Jimmy Rose)- Thomasville, AL, Odessa (Joe) Kirkland, Lower Peach Tree, AL, Oweda (Calhoun) Johnson, Tuskegee, AL, Maggie (Hezekiah) Johnson, New York , NY.

Wake Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Miracle Revival Center, 2010 St Charles Rd, Maywood, IL 60153. Funeral service to follow from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Miracle Revival Center, 2010 St Charles Rd, Maywood, IL 60153.
Graveside services and Interment will take place at St. Thomas AME Cemetery, Lower Peach Tree, AL on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 1 p.m.
