

Faye was loved and respected by many for her selfless, caring disposition. She will always be fondly remembered and deeply missed by those whose lives she touched. She is best known as “Mama,” “Granny,” and “Aunt Faye”.
Faye spent most of her childhood and young adulthood in Chilton County and Mobile County, Alabama. She enjoyed being outdoors, was a country girl at heart, and had many captivating stories to tell! She graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile at the remarkable young age of 15. Throughout her life she completed college courses, worked to support her family, and retired from a captivating career in the aerospace industry.
She was a nurturing soul who loved taking care of her family and pets, entertaining, cooking, baking, sewing, traveling, watching her children and grandchildren’s performances, watching football games, keeping up with the news, playing games and cards, and solving crossword puzzles. Everyone looked forward to visiting her and enjoying her Southern cooking and delectable homemade desserts. Her home was a place of love and laughter.
Faye spent the latter years of her life living in Slidell with her husband, the late Edward Stevenson. She enjoyed her time with friends and was an active member of the community. She served as one of the first female Exalted Rulers at the Slidell Elks Lodge as well other duties at the lodge for many years. She enjoyed volunteering there for events and the scholarship program. She also sometimes served as an election worker in Slidell. She and her husband had fun riding in local parades with the Krewe of Kork.
Faye was a role model to many for her kindness, astute mind, strong will, perseverance, ambitious nature, and dedication to her goals.
She will be remembered most for the ways she loved and cared for her family. Family meant everything to her. She was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives. She was the head of the family, loved hosting gatherings, and would take anyone into her home who needed a place to stay.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Myrtle Sharpe, sisters Elizabeth Lynd and Dorothy Smith, sons John O’Neal and Joseph Stapleton, daughters Susette Poling, Donna Hornsby and Sharon O’Neal, grandchild Victoria von Eberstein, husband Edward Stevenson, and other family. She was an incredibly strong woman who endured much loss during her lifetime. She will now live eternally in peace with God and her loved ones in heaven.
Faye is survived by her children Kimberley Porter and Lisa von Eberstein; step-children Johnny Stapleton (Sheila), Tony Stapleton (Darlene), Sherri Jones, and Kimberly Alsobrooks (Robert); grandchildren April Oustinovitch (Kirill), Brandon O’Neal, Angela Keebler, Austin Keebler, Richard Gulino, III, Chadwick Gulino, Michael Black (Hannah), Jason Black, Cory Hornsby, Hope von Eberstein and Lana von Eberstein; as well as step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Faye’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL 36605. A graveside service celebrating Faye’s life will follow at 3:00 p.m. on site at Pine Crest Cemetery. It will celebrate the love, warmth, and zest for life that Faye embodied so beautifully.
