Jewel Dozier Horner

Jewel was born in Silas, Alabama to the late Foy and Rena Dozier. She attended Southern Choctaw High School. She moved to Mobile, Alabama and graduated from Huffstatler Business School.

She married Raymond Irvin Horner on January 9, 1953. They moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in December, 1954. They were members of Roberts Park United Methodist Church for 15 years until they moved back to Mobile in 1968.

Jewel is survived by Ray, the love of her life. She has three children, Sylvia Sellers of Mobile, Robert (Laurie) Horner of Mobile, and Jerry (Peggy) Horner of Mobile; five grandchildren, Heather (William) McConnell of Montgomery, AL, Jennifer (Wilson) Holifield of Birmingham, AL, Chris (Suzanne) Horner of Salem, WV, David Horner of Mobile, and Michael Horner of Mobile; eight great-grandchildren, Sellers and Mary Jane McConnell, Cameron Holifield, Nathan, Lexie, Devon, Jasmine, and Gabe Horner.

Jewel and Ray owned and operated Horner Electric Company, Inc. for 32 years. They were members of Christ United Methodist Church for over 20 years. They were members of Seekers Sunday School Class. Jewel was a member of the Esther Circle and a member of the National Mobile Chapter of the D.A.R. Jewel was once described as “a sweet and loving pistol”. She was a wonderful woman, and will be greatly missed.

The family of Jewel would like to extend their gratitude to Robin, Jewel’s Nurse Practitioner; Mobile Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the nurses who cared for her there, Courtney Rodgers and Kiki Carson; as well as her hospice nurse, Beth Tattersol.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 6101 Grelot Road, Mobile, Alabama 36609.

A small, private family service was held at Pine Crest Funeral Home.
