She is survived by her loving and adoring husband of 63 years, Ken “Papa” Mock; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Mickey Howell; her granddaughters, Kellie(Steven)Waite, Mollie Andrews, and Maggie Cottrell; six great-grandchildren, Cade, Cammie, Ella, Jackson, Carys, and Hattie Cate; one brother, Benjamin H. Martin; and our special family member, Debbie Portella.
Joan, affectionately known to all as “Nana”, had a yard full of flowers that she loved dearly. Her whole world revolved around spending time with, and attending activities with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved making cornbread, sugar pancakes, and was known for her famous “Nana brownies”. She loved spending time with Papa boating, sailing, and fishing. She retired from “Gayfers/Dillards” after 38 years with the company. She was a loving, kind, and caring southern lady, and will be missed dearly.
Visitation for Joan will be from 12:30-2:00 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, with a graveside service immediately following in Pine Crest Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab earmarked for the Manatee Sighting Network.
