Joe was one of nicest people I know. It was such a pleasure to work in Banking with him. He will greatly be missed. May Our Lord bless Rita and give her and their daughters comfort at this sad time. We know Joe is resting in peace. We love you, Joe . . . Nelson and Beverly Iturbe.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Joe's passing. When I remember him, I think of him watching TV with Ms. Rita on the couch, always cuddling and treasuring her, talking sweetly to their dog, Sugar, and ordering Friday night pizza, a Matzenger tradition. He was always kind to me and saved me one day from a snake that had fallen from the tree over their driveway. Lindsey and Jennifer were out with their mom, so I was riding my bike alone. The Matzenger driveway was long and conducive to biking, and on that day, I felt free and yanked at a limb covering it. To my surprise, a garter snake dropped out of the tree and fell over my shoulders. The horror! I jumped off my bike and screamed something awful! Mr. Joe flew out of the house, hoe in hand. He ended the snake and calmed me down. I still have an unnatural fear of snakes, but remember Mr. Joe fondly as my hero that day. I know he will be missed. Praying for you all.

Joe was always such a gentleman and so kind to everyone. As a little kid on Dauphin Island, I always looked up to him, my big, handsome cousin with the beautiful smile. I remember Joe driving us on some kind of beach buggy, zooming through the sand and I thought he was just the coolest! It was an honor to be in Mobile to celebrate Joe's life with those who loved him. Thinking of all of you with love and prayers during these next tough weeks and months.

Growing up on the Cedars was the best of places to grow up. Our neighbors were our best friends and all of us girls loved Betty’s handsome older brother. I remember Joe as a kind, gentle and patient brother and friend. Sending prayers to his family.

Dear cousin, I'll always remember all those summers at the house on Dauphin Island, particularly that bad July 4th, Grandma Mat's wonderful gumbo, swimming at the club pool and leaving the island in the dark and rain just ahead of that hurricane, meeting sweet Rita and your darling girls -- I could go on forever.
I can't believe you're gone so soon . . .
Love and hugs, Ann

Rita, Jenn, Lindsey, Jon and of course sweet little Emma. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We always had a blast at Tommy and Deana's every time you were in Columbus.
