Joel Newman Deckbar

Joel Mary Newman Deckbar, age 83, a native of New Orleans, LA, and a resident of Mobile, AL, for 13 years, passed away on June 3, 2013. Joel was born on December 19, 1929 in New Orleans, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Mildred Newman; and brother, Ronald H. Newman. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in New Orleans, LA. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Frederick A. Deckbar, Jr.; two sons, Frederick “Rick” A. (Kathy) Deckbar, III, and Lawrence “Larry” C. (Carol) Deckbar, II; one daughter, Linda D. (Neal) Wood; eight grandchildren, Arthur (Andrea), Scott, Larry, Patrick and Peter Deckbar, Erin D. (Chase) Finger, Samantha and Nathaniel Wood; two great-granddaughters, Dreama Byrd and Daphne Deckbar; and many other family members and friends. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Our Savior Catholic Church in Mobile, AL. Internment is tentatively scheduled for Friday, June 21, 2013 at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Savior Catholic Church.
