John "Jack" Cedric Broach Sr.

John Cedric (Jack) Broach, Sr., passed away on December 6, 2023 (St. Nicholas Day). Jack was born August 16, 1946 to Cedric Hurlbutt Broach, Jr., and Margaret Lucille (Hyde) Broach. He was preceded in death by his parents and Brother, Glen Thomas Broach. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Norma Jean (Havard) Broach and their children, Jacquelyn Lee Henley (Michael), Rebecca Jean Samarripa (Andrew), Amy Marie Smith (Kyle), John Cedric Broach, Jr. (Catherine), Margaret Ann Broach, and Stephanie Marlene Broach-Stewart (Mark), as well as 11 grandchildren (Hannah, Dakota, Zane, Thomas, Ian, Emma, Grace, Taylor, Amelia, Willow and Abby), and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings Robert (Bob), William (Bill), James (Jimmy), Anita, Maryellen (Ellen) and Jean.

He was a proud graduate of W. P. Davidson High School, Spring Hill College, and The University of Southern California where he earned a Master’s Degree in Systems Management.

Jack was a proud, retired U. S. Army soldier of over 20 years, serving his country faithfully; living around the world in Europe, Asia, The Middle East and the U.S.A. He was especially proud of his service as a Major in the Medical Service Corps serving as a Health Care Plans, Operations, Training and Intelligence Officer, working as the Army Project Officer for the National Disaster Medical System, and as U.S. Army Europe Medical Liaison Officer to NATO and a variety of command posts.

After military service, Jack returned to Mobile and worked for the University of South Alabama Medical Center as the Director of Supply, Processing and Distribution for five years, then moved on to The University of West Florida (UWF) for 23 years as the Associate Director of Business and Auxiliary Services. During his time at UWF, he also served as University Postmaster and Manager of the U.S. Contract Post Office, Manager of Printing Services, and Manager of Passport Services. Jack proudly served as President of the College and University Mail Services Association.

Jack loved to laugh, had a great sense of humor and always had a funny retort for everyone. He loved traveling the world with Norma and their children, cherished adventures and vacations with their grandchildren, and especially loved watching them grow.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Dominic Catholic Church, 4156 Burma Road in Mobile, Ala., at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Saint Dominic’s Murphy Center.
