
John Willis Sims, another of the greatest generation, passed from this earth on Friday August 31, 2012 in the presence of his family.
Born on September 13, 1914, John Willis Sims married Louise W. Ryals in December 1937 and remained bonded in marriage for seventy six plus years.
Louise, his survivor, was the love of his life and he expressed his love for her to his last breath. The passion of John's life was his family and his marriage produced four offspring, Robert W. (Sherry) Sims, Merry D. (Robert) Sturdivant, John W. (Carolyn) Sims and Jefferson L. (Sheri) Sims. John's twelve grandchildren include Rob Sims, Virginia Sims, Michele Rippi, Miles Sims, Noel Sims Richardson, Judson Lambard, Beverly Shoemaker, Joseph T. Sims, Kellie Sims Myers, Cori D. Sims, Keri B. Sims and Jennifer Bailey (deceased), sixteen great grandchildren and other relatives.
Mr. Sims was a member of Fulton Road Baptist Church. He retired as Yardmaster after 37 years of service with the L&N Railroad. After retirement he dabbled in real estate and home building under Sims and Sons, Inc. He enjoyed dealing with people in the sales and rentals of property.
The family would like to express thanks to the staff of Westminster Village and Odyssey Hospice for there kindness to our father during this difficult period.
Visitation will be on Monday September 3, 2012 from 5 until 7 PM at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile. Private graveside services will be in Flomaton, Alabama on Tuesday.
