OBITUARY

Joseph Marcine Bolton Sr.

Joseph Marcine Bolton, Jr. was born February 21, 1930, in Theodore, Alabama, and departed this life on February 12, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Murray M. Bolton and Viola Anderson Bolton; his three sisters, Marguerite (Tony) Wallace; Mary Mott (Milton) Jordan; and Bernice (Johnny) Castle; and his brother, Murray M. Bolton, Jr. Bolton enlisted in the Army on November 1, 1949. He was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division He was wounded on September 9, 1950 while aiding another soldier wounded in action. Bolton was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. He returned to Korea in 1997 and was awarded the Peace Ambassador Medal. Bolton was a member of Saint Dominic Catholic Church where he served on the first parish council and was an Eucharistic Minister. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He was a charter member of The Military Order of the Purple Heart and was Past Commander. He was a charter member of the Korean War Veterans Association and served five years as President. He was chairman of the committee that built the KWVA Memorial at Battleship Park. He was honored by the Veteran’s Day Commission as Veteran of the Year in 2003. Bolton is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret (Lipscomb) Bolton; his son, Joseph Bolton, Jr. (Linda); his grandchildren, Joseph, III (Katie) and Alison; his brother, Donnie Bolton (Vera); and his brother-in-law, Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Lipscomb. The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street, with the Rosary at 5:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
